CASARA Sydney Member Saves Choking Child

Picture
Little did Shimal Fernandopulle think as he was taking a first aid course with
CASARA that it would someday be the reason he would be able to save a choking
child.
On October 2, 2016 while at a fund raising breakfast for the Cantley Village Recreation Association which was being held in Sydney River Nova Scotia, Shimal noticed a
group of people  around a small boy who seemed to be choking. After two or three attempts by bystanders  trying to dislodge the food in the child's throat , it was clear
from  the blueish colour of the child's face this wasn't going well.
It was then that Shimal got up; ran over to the child and remembering what he was taught in first aid for choking,
grabbed the child and started to do abdominal thrusts and followed with finger swipes pulling a large peace of
bacon out of the child's mouth. The child's colour quickly started to come back and our member
Mr. Shimal Fernandopulle was  hailed as a hero that morning by all the neighbours in his community.

It was clear that if it wasn't  for the quick response of our member, this could have been a tragic outcome.
This 10 year old and his family and friends will be ever so great-full to Shimal Fernnandopulle for a very
long time to come. Well done Shimal, we here at CASARA are all very  proud of your actions !!
